HYPER-BLOCK HOUSE

CHATTANOOGA, TN

With Branch Technology’s ability to 3D print scaffolding at one to one scale, this proposal reaches for an affordable, mass-customized approach to spatial & material composition. Modular variation allows each to riff off of the other while revealing its own unrested identity in a hyper-real scenario for spatial experience and material contouring. With pushing convention, the assembly technique makes use of traditional procedures to ensure constructability. The courtyard allows for a formal transition from the bold, extroverted exterior layer to the playful, introverted interior; diverting one’s attention from the outside to the inside as they enter. The focus on materiality expands on this where the varied, heavy, tough walls of the exterior serve to blend the intimacy of the dwelling with its surroundings. From the exterior walls, the interior shifts up to a contoured ceiling, blending the interior to the courtyard & side yard while maintaining separation from the exterior street edge.
