BELTLINE PAVILION

WESTSIDE TRAIL, ATLANTA, GA

The community desired a pavilion that punctuated the Adair Park Community as an area with its own identity while inseparable from the city of Atlanta. The site emerges as a rift with the opportunity for nurturing new uses and connections to the west and overall city via the beltline. The design approach takes cues from these contextual relationships, old and new, in a way that both establishes a bold, unique identity and offers room for visitors to engage in speculation. In terms of materiality and form, the speculation revolves around the relationship of the two primary structural expressions. The main stage structure employs curvilinear steel member strung together with tendon-like struts. As a counter measure, a weathering steel brise-soleil system calms the otherwise untamed stage structure. One system wrestles with the other in attempt to excite the event surrounding performances.
